Entertainment industry incentive supporters aren’t backing down, especially with another Florida special session in the near future.

“Last week, Film Florida sent letters to Gov.Rick Scott, Senate President Andy Gardiner and Speaker of the House Steve Crisafulli formally requesting that the entertainment industry be on the agenda for the special session. Then last Friday, Film Florida launched an online petition asking the governor, president and speaker for the same,” said John Lux, COO of Orlando-based Ideas and industry council for Film Florida.

The petition has already garnered more than 1,300 votes, but may need many more for state leaders to consider the legislation. State leaders are most likely going to continue their debates on health care issues, as well as other budget discussions.

Supporting the local industry is considered critical because reports show that advancement of the industry through incentives could create 50,000 new jobs in the state and $500 million a year in economic impact.
