This past week we had a great couple days in Miami for our Quarterly Meetings. We want to thank our hosts, the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB), Miami-Dade Office of Film & Entertainment and the Miami Beach Office of Film & Events. Our quarterly meetings kicked off on Wednesday with our Strategic Futures Committee meeting at MAGIC (Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex at Miami Dade College). Our Strategic Futures Committee looks at where the organization and the industry will be 2-5 years from now. The meeting was highlighted by a panel discussion looking at a wide range of industry opportunities and challenges. Wednesday night was our Welcome Reception where more than 60 industry leaders took advantage of great networking opportunities. We were especially excited that close to 20 individuals and companies that are not currently members of Film Florida joined us to learn more about the organization.
Thursday included 7 hours of meetings, starting with our Film Commission Council, then followed by the Education Council. After lunch the Industry Council met and meetings wrapped up with the Legislative Committee. Each committee and council looks at industry challenges and how Film Florida can work on them from the council’s/committee’s specific perspective. Thursday wrapped up with a tour and reception at the Viacom International Studios at EUE/Screen Gems Studios Miami. We were honored to have executives from Viacom International in New York fly in to spend the evening with us and talk about how they can help our organization and our industry in Florida.
Our time in Miami concluded Friday morning with the Film Florida Board of Directors Meeting. As always, our Board Meetings are open to the public (either in person or by phone) and it was great to see some new and familiar faces join us. While in Miami we were based out of The Langford Hotel and we would like to thank them for their hospitality and support.
While we will have several virtual committee and council meetings for members over the next couple months, our next Quarterly Meetings will be in Orlando in December. Stay tuned for dates and details. In the meantime, we would encourage anyone interested in the industry to join the organization so you can participate in one of our committees. Our industry is stronger when it’s working together to help it grow. The Film Florida Committees and Councils drive the agenda for the organization. We would encourage members to get involved and we hope others will see the value in membership and we’ll see some new names and faces on our committees and councils in the next couple months. If you’re not already engaged with us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn, make sure you reach out as that’s the best way to get daily information about our organization and our industry, including more photos from all of the meetings and events noted above. And we are always available if you’d like to get in touch either by e-mail at info@filmflorida.org or by phone at 407-494-6195.
