Winners were honored during a virtual award ceremony
Films were made, votes were cast and winners were revealed. Film Florida’s inaugural Student Film Competition was a roaring success. The students had 10 days to shoot, edit, and publish their short films, with a Florida spin. The competition saw 13 schools participate, 29 films submitted, and over 2,000 votes cast for the Audience Choice Award.
The winning teams were selected by a panel of judges with various professions within the film industry. The 11 awards were snagged by 7 teams, with the Best Film and Audience Choice winners walking away with $500 per team.
“We are proud of the efforts and enthusiasm each student showed in their projects. Finishing a film in just 10 days is an award all on its own,” said Tyler Martinolich, Vice President of Film Florida, during the virtual award ceremony.
All participating student films continue to be showcased on Film Florida’s new streaming platform, Film Florida TV, which will officially launch on June 8th.
“I am extremely proud of all the teams, along with our internal team, for their efforts,” says John Lux, Executive Director of Film Florida. “For our first year hosting this competition, to see the type of response from students across the state shows the appetite for this, and I’m pleased that Film Florida can help students showcase their creativity. We look forward to growing and expanding the competition in the future.”
